There are several options to keep your skin moisturized, including body lotions, body creams, and body butters. Many times it is difficult to choose among them as all three appears same but in fact they are different in their formulation and intended function.

In this article lets explore the major differences and which is more suited for your skin. Before we proceed there are 3 words worth mention Humectants, Emollients, and Occlusives. Humectants are mainly to draw moisture on skin surface, Emollients, smooth the skin and repair the skin barriers, while occlusives locks hydration on the skin surface. Body Lotions, Creams, and Butters are typically have all the three in various proportions.

A body lotions are typically, less viscous and easier to spread, this make them a lightweight, fast drying.

Body Cream

Body creams are more typically more viscous than lotions. They tend to offer more rich and creamy feeling, and offer solution to dry, rough skin, where high skin moisturising is required.

Body Butter

Body butter are similar to body creams, but can have rich creamy textures. With body butter you may find that product sensed in your hand like butter and spreading also looks like butter. They have low or no water content. 

It is important to note that Body Cream, Body Lotion, Body Butter looks same, but they are different. While choosing which one to use it is better to choose based on your skin type, personal preference, and level of hydration your skin requires. Also to consider is that season as well as climate can impact skin reaction towards different moisturisers, for example some people may like richer cream during winters and lighter lotion during summers.
